So now that the all-time dunk contest participants list is complete, lets move on to the best three-point shooters of all-time. I tried to take into consideration how many times a player has won the contest, how many three pointers they have made in their career (durability and longevity) and their career percentage from distance (consistency and accuracy). There were some players who have made more threes than the players on this list but they were known more as scorers and had a lower percentage.
1. Ray Allen
Three-point contest winner in 2001. All-time leader in three-pointers made (2,973) at 40 percent for his career. “Jesus Shuttlesworth” has hit numerous clutch three-pointers throughout his illustrious career. His shot is text book with a perfect form and release.
2. Reggie Miller
Crazy to think Reggie never won a three-point contest. He ranks second all-time in three-pointers made (2,560) at 39.5 percent from downtown for his career. Miller is arguably the most clutch three-point shooter/ all-around shooter of all-time. He doesn’t have the greatest shooting form, as his wrists come together upon release, but his shot was lethal and automatic most of the time.
3. Larry Bird
Inaugural winner and one of two, three-time consecutive winners (’86,’87,’88) mentioned on the list. Because Larry Legend was a complete, all-around player and later battled injuries towards the end of career, he only made 649 threes at 37.6 percent.
4. Craig Hodges
Still holds the three-point contest record for consecutive shots made at 19. Joined by Larry Bird, he’s the other three-time winner along with Bird (’90,’91,’92). Hodges was a vital sniper from three-point range during the Bulls first three-peat. Finish his career with 563 threes at 40 percent.
5. Peja Stojakovic
Two-time winner (’01,’02). Considered as one of the best shooters of his era while with the Kings. Peja made 1760 three pointers with a 40.1 percent average.
6. Kyle Korver
Surprised he hasn’t won a contest yet– Korver holds the record for most consecutive games with at least one three-pointer made (127 games). Korver has over 1600+ three pointers made and counting at 43.1 percent.
7. Stephen Curry
One of the best, if not the best three-point shooter in the game today. Curry can pull-up from anywhere and drain it from distance with a quick release. He’s on pace to threaten Ray Allen‘s record if he continues his onslaught. Thus far, Curry has 1000+ three-pointers made and counting with 43.4 percent efficiency (Tied for 4th all-time).
8. Steve Kerr
One-time three point contest winner (’97). Kerr ranks No.1 all-time in three-point percentage at 45.4 from the arc, including 726 three-pointers made. He has hit several big shots during the Bulls second three-peat and San Antonio Spurs championships.
9. Jeff Hornacek
Two-time winner (’98,’00) with 828 three-pointers made at 40.3 percent. Hornacek is one of the underrated shooters not talked about too much, as he is very deserving of being in the discussion.
10. Mark Price
Price was a two-time three-point winner (’93,’94). Not only was he a great point guard, he was a pure shooter who always shot a high percentage throughout career (40.2 percent). Price has 976 three-pointers made in his NBA career.
HONORABLE MENTION
Dale Ellis – One-time three-point champ (’89). Ellis made 1719 three-pointers at 40.3 percent.
Ellis had a sorta side flick to his shooting form.
Steve Nash – The two-time MVP has mainly been known as a great point guard and controlling the pace of a team but he has also been an excellent shooter. Nash has tallied 1685 three-pointers at 42.8 percent from the arc.
Glen Rice – One-time three-point contest winner (’95). “G-Money” has drained 1559 three-pointers while shooting 40 percent.
Jason Kapono – Two-time winner with two different teams (Miami ’07,Toronto ’08) and one of the top three-point percentage leaders of all-time at 43.4 (tied for fourth).
